Christ Temple Apostolic Church of Westland was founded in 1944 by the late Elder F.E. Johnson. Services were first held in the Farnum and Fox Street area (Inkster, MI) and eventually in the home of Brother and Sister Brady Keith located at 4053 Fox. The Christ Temple Church family moved to its Present location here on Eton street in 1950.
After Elder Johnson passed Elder Samuel B. Ware was elected as Pastor. Elder Ware expanded the Church building erecting a beautiful new edifice (former sanctuary) which was completed in 1976. Under the leadership of Elder Samuel B. Ware, the current sanctuary was built and completed in 1988.
Elder Ware was promoted to the office of District Elder shortly afterwards. His wife who faithfully supported him was the lovely First Lady Sister Della Mae Ware. Due to reoccurring illness which Rendered District Elder Ware incapable of performing Pastoral duties and responsibilities, he was officially retired on August 21, 1996 under the direction of Diocesan Bishop Harry Herman. On August 21, 1996 then, Assistant Pastor Elder Luke A. McClendon, Jr. was unanimously elected as the Pastor by the Christ Temple Church family membership. The election process was held under the direction of Diocesan Bishop Harry Herman.
By the help of the Lord, the support of his lovely wife Sister Mary F. McClendon, and the Christ Temple Church family, Suffragan Bishop McClendon is striving to carry on and further expand this great work begun in 1944.
